a11y4all = Accessibility for All Blog

Hi — I’m Tim Fahlberg, a retired Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired and an Accessibility Advocate based in Monona, Wisconsin.

Through Accessibility for All, I share what I’ve learned about inclusive design, assistive technology, and practical ways to make public spaces welcoming to everyone.

I believe accessibility isn’t an add-on — it’s essential.

My work focuses especially on museums and cultural institutions. These spaces preserve knowledge, interpret culture, inspire learning, and tell the stories of who we are. Yet too often, people who are blind, low-vision, DeafBlind, Deaf, hard of hearing, or navigating language barriers cannot experience them independently.

Accessibility is not about checking a box. It’s about dignity, empowerment, and full participation.

I help museums think strategically about layered solutions — including platforms like Bloomberg Connects for accessible digital guides, NaviLens for wayfinding and content delivery, and other tools that support independent navigation and rich multimedia access.

When combined with thoughtful physical design, tactile elements, audio description, braille, and multilingual content, these approaches create truly inclusive visitor experiences.

Currently, I’m especially interested in helping museums in Wisconsin — particularly in the Madison area — explore how Bloomberg Connects can expand accessibility from the start.

Accessibility strengthens institutions, communities, and culture.
